Flossing your teeth is an important part of maintaining good oral hygiene. Here's a step-by-step guide on how to properly floss your teeth:

  1. Start with a piece of dental floss: Cut about 18 inches (45 cm) of dental floss and wrap the ends around your middle fingers, leaving about 2 inches (5 cm) of floss to work with.
  1. Hold the floss correctly: Hold the floss tightly between your thumbs and index fingers, leaving a small section of floss taut.
  1. Slide the floss between your teeth: Gently slide the floss between your teeth using a back-and-forth sawing motion. Be careful not to snap the floss into your gums, as this can cause irritation or injury.
  1. Curve the floss around each tooth: Once the floss reaches the gumline, curve it into a C shape around the side of one tooth. Gently slide the floss up and down against the tooth and just below the gumline. Repeat this process for each tooth, using a clean section of floss for each one.
  1. Don't forget the back teeth: Make sure to floss the back side of the last tooth in each row, as these areas are often neglected but prone to plaque buildup.
  1. Be gentle and thorough: Use a gentle and controlled motion while flossing to avoid injuring your gums. Take your time and floss each tooth thoroughly, removing any plaque or food particles.
  1. Rinse and dispose of the floss: After flossing, rinse your mouth with water to remove any dislodged particles. Then, carefully remove the floss from your fingers, taking care not to scatter debris, and dispose of it properly.
  1. Floss daily: It's recommended to floss your teeth at least once a day, preferably before bed. Consistent flossing helps prevent gum disease, tooth decay, and bad breath.

Remember, if you're unsure about the proper flossing technique or have any concerns, it's always a good idea to consult with your individual dental hygienist for personalized advice.
