Manual Brushing Technique

Brushing with a manual toothbrush is a simple yet effective way to maintain good oral hygiene.

Here's a step-by-step guide on how to brush your teeth with a manual toothbrush:

  1. Choose the right toothbrush: Select a toothbrush with soft bristles. NEVER HARD BRISTLES! Hard bristles can be too abrasive and potentially damage your teeth and gums.
  2. Apply toothpaste: Squeeze a pea-sized amount of fluoride toothpaste onto the bristles of your toothbrush. Fluoride or nano-hydroxyapatite toothpaste is recommended to help protect your teeth against cavities.
  3. Wet the brush: Before brushing, wet the bristles of your toothbrush to help create a foamy lather.
  4. Position the toothbrush: Hold the toothbrush at a 45-degree angle towards the gum line. This allows the bristles to reach the area where your teeth meet your gums.
  5. Brush in small, circular motions: Using gentle pressure, move the toothbrush in small, circular motions across the surfaces of your teeth. Make sure to cover all tooth surfaces, including the fronts, backs, and chewing surfaces. Pay special attention to the gum line, where plaque tends to accumulate.
  6. Brush each tooth individually: Brush one tooth at a time, ensuring that you clean all sides of each tooth. Spend about 2-3 seconds on each tooth before moving on to the next one.
  7. Clean the inner surfaces: Tilt the toothbrush slightly vertically to brush the inner surfaces of your front teeth. Use a gentle combo of circular and up-and-down motions to clean these surfaces.
  8. Clean the toothbrush: Rinse your toothbrush under running water to remove any residual toothpaste or debris. Store the toothbrush upright in a clean, dry area to allow it to air dry.

Remember to brush your teeth at least twice a day. Aim to brush for a total of two minutes each time. It's also important to replace your toothbrush every three months or sooner if the bristles become frayed or worn out, or after being sick. In addition, regular dental check-ups and professional cleanings are crucial for maintaining optimal oral health.
